Everybody's Business

Everybody's Business is a set of free e-learning materials about the mental health of children and young people. It is aimed at people who work with children, young people and their families who are not mental health professionals. We recommend that you start with Understanding Mental Health, as this contains the underlying knowledge needed for the modules on Mental Health Promotion and the Peri-Natal & Infant Mental Health.

The materials are not formally accredited but participants are able to print a certificate, similar to a 'Certificate of Attendance' on completion of each module. The website will guide you through this process.

There is no charge for using these materials.

About

Everybody’s Business was commissioned & funded by the National CAMHS Support Service (NCSS) and developed by a number of trainers across the country, originally in 2006. NCSS funded further work to develop new modules and revise the original e-learning materials.

Everybody’s Business was re-launched in November 2009 with a more interactive user experience, better tracking of progress, certification and two new Modules on Peri-Natal & Infant Mental Health, and Mental Health Promotion. All modules on the new resource are based on individual learning.

Everybody’s Business on-line learning materials include forums with the intention of fostering group discussion and problem solving. Facilitators/trainers/educators could use the materials for a group to work through whilst acting as an e-mentor to their learning.

Both new modules were commissioned and funded by NCSS, with course materials developed by Cernis Ltd, and converted into multimedia by OCB Media Ltd. Once again the course materials could not have been developed without the time, co-operation, expertise and advice of the people listed on each Module Overview page.

NCSS is very grateful for the time, effort and sharing that occurred to help us to shape and develop these materials, and we hope that we have acknowledged people appropriately throughout.

If you wish to discuss any of this further or feel you could help contribute , please contact Jane Sedgewick, lead for NCSS on training tier one, on jane.sedgewick@yhip.org.uk

Understanding Mental Health

Understanding Mental Health

In this module we aim to give participants an introduction to mental health, through 4 sessions examining - What is Mental Health; Mental Health Problems and Disorders; What are Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, and some examples of what works when dealing with children and young people with mental health problems.

Mental Health Promotion

Mental Health Promotion

In this module we examine definitions of mental health and encourage participants to develop their own language and terminology around the subject, and understand what is meant by positive mental health. Through looking at stigma participants will investigate the issues raised when young people are labelled and given a diagnosis.

Perinatal and Infant Mental Health

Perinatal and Infant Mental Health

Infant mental health refers to the emotional and cognitive development of infants from birth. This development takes place within the infant’s environment, which consists primarily of their relationship with their primary caregiver. The nature of this relationship has very significant long term implications for the mental health of the baby, and the child and adult they become.
